Tips for the Best Black Hair Weave Styles

Weaves are a quick way to add length and volume to your existing hair or a quick way to change your look without altering your own hair. Thinking of getting a weave?  Can’t decide on what technique will work best for you?   Whether you want long sexy tresses like Gabriel Union or a short pixie cut like Halle Berry a weave can achieve both styles with very low maintenance. Two popular techniques are sew -in weaves and quick weaves.

Sew-In

If you plan on wearing your weaving for 4-6 weeks, my recommendation is that you try a sewn in weave. A sew in weave is where the hair is braided in a pattern and the hair is attached to the braids. Some of your natural hair can be left out or completely covered. For this type of weave I recommend using either Indian or Chinese Remy Hair, which is typically found through online vendors and not your local Beauty Supply. This hair has the best texture match to AA hair. This hair can often be reused for another installation depending on the style you choose.

Here a list of reputable online retailers.

Now once you’ve settled on the type of weave, hair and style. Make sure you have your hair installed by someone that can make the weave as flat and undetectable as possible.

Maintenance:

Once installed make sure your hair and scalp moisturized with HHP Emu Oil. Pump on to fingertips and massage into the scalp and temple areas.  At night wrap your hair, by swirling in a circular motion with a Denman D3 Brush apply bobby pin or hair clip to hold and cover with a silk scarf. The next morning remove scarf brush lightly with Denman Brush and curl if needed. Shampoo and needed gently.

Quick Weave

This method is for the person that doesn’t want a long term commitment

With a Quick Weave the hair is molded close to the head and covered with a protective cap. The wefts of hair are applied to the cap with bonding glue and shaped and styled. For this method, I recommend you use less expensive Beauty Supply hair since this style typically only last for about 1.5 weeks.

*Remember before proceeding with either weave type consult your cosmetologist to make sure your hair is in good condition in order to obtain either weave type.*
